About this Support Tier List

This Support Tier List was created and is kept up to date by a Master/Challenger player and is based on his experience, knowledge and skill as well as information collected from platinum+ games such as pick rates, ban rates, win rates and in depth analyzis of games from the following regions: EUW/NA/KR. - The tier list should work in all divisions, but is written specifically for people who want to carry without being team reliant and who are placed somewere between high gold to diamond.

The champions aren’t listed in any specific order, just the general top 5 that belongs on this Support Tier List for League of Legends in each patch. Click on the champion you want to learn more about in the current patch to see generic build, general info and pros and cons for that champion. After you are done reading, click the backspace to get back to the tier list, where you can click on another champion from that same patch to read about.

Support Tier List - Information on each champion mentioned in each list.

Karmasupport tier list: karma

Pros:

- insanely strong laning phase;

- great burst damage;

- AoE shield / movement speed;

- can be picked in almost any match-up.

Cons:

- no "ultimate";

- no hard CC.

- squishy

            Karma is a support who can be played in multiple ways, the most common and efficient way being the aggressive one - where she goes for Thunderlord and rushes as much AP as she wants to, while building minimal support items ( a sighstone and maybe an Ardent Censer ). Her strength comes with her level 1 ultimate, which allows her to improve the next spell she uses, allowing for insane poke at early levels and can easily grant you some kills and a lane advantage if you have ignite and the enemies don’t respect the Karma pick. I have seen support Karma's (with only sighstone as their support item) one vs one the enemy adc or the enemy AP and win hands down because her damage is underestimated.

            Generic build: 0/18/12 ( Windspeaker’s Blessing or Thunderlord’s Decree ), 9x red magic pen, 9x yellow armor, 9x blue magic resist, 3x quints AP. Spellthief’s Edge – Sightstone – Ionian Boots of Lucidity – Eye of the Watchers – Ardent Censer - Redemption – Void Staff – Rabadon’s Deathcap. ( this is a hybrid support/AP build which has some auras and some extra buffs for your team, while also making sure to grant you as much ability power as possible. )

Miss FortuneSupport tier list league of legends - miss fortune

Pros:

- best laning phase as a support right now - on par with Zyra;

- easy to poke with;

- useful when behind;

- lots of AoE damage;

- mixed damage.

Cons:

- low mobility;

- high mana costs.

- Squish and no escape.

            Miss Fortune right now is a 100% pick/ban champion alongside Zyra. Both are very good at crushing the bot lane without much effort due to the Spellthief’s Edge + Thunderlord’s Decree combo coupled with untradable damage, like plants from Zyra and the E damage + slow from Miss Fortune. Miss Fortune isn’t that hard to play, all you have to do is max your E, spam it when not on cooldown on the enemy support or adc and just watch them slowly die to the bullets while also being slowed, giving you perfect opportunities to keep poking them and just zone them out of the lane. The only support who can stand against Miss Fortune right now is Zyra and vice-versa. The lane is pretty 50/50 between them. but almost any other support will give you a pretty easy match up.

            Generic build: 12/18/0 ( Thunderlord’s Decree ), 9x red magic/hybrid pen/attack damage, 9x yellow armor, 9x blue magic resist, 3x quints ability power or attack damage. Spellthief’s Edge – Sighstone – Eye of the Watchers – Ionian Boots of Lucidity – Black Cleaver – Mortal Reminder. ( core items for 40% cdr, rest is up to you, if you want even more slow, buy a Rylai, if you want more burn/magic pen go for Liandry’s Torment, if you want more armor pen go for Youmuu’s, usually games are over once you reach the 40% cdr build and just keep clearing the enemy teams with minimal effort, if you want to be more useful to your ADC/team, you can go Zeke’s Harbringer or Locket of the Iron Solari, just adapt to the game, ask your team what they need off you and buy it, simple as that. )

Brandsupport tier list - Brand

Pros:

- dominant in lane;

- high burst;

- can turn around lost fights with the AoE damage potential he has;

- useful even if ultimate is on CD.

- has a stun.

Cons:

- no dash;

- high mana costs.

- squishy.

            Brand is a very strong mage-support, similar to Zyra. He is very dominant in lane and his goal is to ensure a good laning phase for his ADC or ensure a good laning phase for himself by completely annihilating the poor enemy bot lane souls with the amount of pressure he can extert early on.

            His buildpath usually involves having a lot of AP and Rylai to keep enemies permaslowed, which will put you on the verge of usefulness by having the top damage in the game most of the time post-match and having perma slow-peels for your ADC.

            Generic build: 18/12/0 ( DFT ), 9x red magic, 9x yellow health/lvl or armor, 9x blue magic resist, 3x quints ability power or armor ( if went for yellow health/lvl yellows ). Spellthief’s Edge – Sighstone – Eye of the Watchers – Ionian Boots of Lucidity/Sorcerer’s Shoes – Rylai – Liandry’s Torment – Void Staff – Rabadon’s Deathcap.. ( Rylai is core with t2 boots and sighstone upgrade, rest is versatile, the most viable path being the AP one to carry solo/flex que with. )

AlistarSupport tier list - Alistar

Pros:

- 3 cc abilities;

- great base damage;

- insanely tanky;

- can win teamfights alone with a well-timed flash combo.

Cons:

- low base movement speed;

- long cooldowns;

- reliable on team to follow up.

- high mana costs.

            Alistar is a tanky support who excels at engaging and unleashing his cc on vulnerable enemy carries or squishies, picking them off and then moving onto the next targets. During laning phase with good coordination you can land 3 CCs on the enemy laners to allow your ADC to get some easy trades or even kills if he can follow up with something else ( ex. Cait trap / Jhin W ). This is why you should try to play the laning phase with Ignite and sync it with your passive. The downside of him compared to ranged support mages is that if he goes in, he most of the time won’t go out, especially if your team refuses to follow up and ditches you. So be aware when picking this champion in elo below diamond: try to pick him with a tested ADC (someone you know is decent) and be careful with insta picking him below diamond when playing with randoms where you dont know their capabilities.

            Generic build: 0/12/18 ( Bond of Stone ). 9x red armor, 9x yellow health, 9x blue magic resist, 3 quints armor. Generic build: Sighstone – Boots of Mobility – Eye of the Equinox – Knight’s Vow – Locket of the Iron Solari – Frozen Heart – Righteous Glory.

Bardsupport tier list: bard

Pros:

- great mobility;

- soft & hard cc;

- game changing ultimate ( can turn losses into a fast win if you hit the enemy team );

- can set up ganks with his E on all lanes.

Cons:

- skillshot reliant;

- high skillfloor;

- low manaregen & high mana costs;

- game changing ultimate ( can turn wins into a fast loss if you hit your team ).

            Bard is the goofiest support available to play in the game. He has pleasant animations, a good and reliable kit which allows him to set up kills in laning phase, both in botlane and as a gank in other lanes. His skills also allows him to move through the map quite fast - with his portal opening up new and exciting possibilities - and on top of that he is insanely fun to play. His ultimate is a double-edged sword, it can both win and lose you games instantly during mid-late game, it is just that powerful. This means your teammates in the solo/dynamic environment can be hesitant at first when they see this support in their team. He can be very fun to play when mastered, but it takes time and practive be become a Bard Master. You need to know the points where you can place clutch-portals, you need to know the areas where your Q will stun enemies and you need to understand the game mechanics around the champion
.

            Generic build: 0/18/12 ( Thunderlords Decree ), 9x red hybrid pen, 9x yellow health, 9x blue magic resist, 3x quints Armor. Spellthief’s Edge – Sightstone – Boots of Mobility – Eye of the Watchers –Locket of the Iron Solari – Zeke’s Harbringer – Mikael’s Crucible – Frozen Heart. ( Spellthief’s Edge is mandatory for a good laning phase, as for boots – boots of mobility are the most reliant boots in order to roam and set up kills for your teammates. )

Taricsupport tier list: taric

Pros:

- good laning phase;

- AoE heal;

- ability to stun multiple targets from different angles;

- AoE immunity ultimate.

Cons:

- low mobility;

- vulnerable to poke;

- weak to burst compositions ( ultimate needs  time to be activated ).

            Taric is a tanky support with potential to play aggressively in lane due to the stun and sustain he has from his heal. He works best when combined with an ADC that can force a fight or follow up on a stun with some damage. All the current meta ADCs can do that, so Taric by default can be put to good use.

            Generic build: 0/12/18 ( Bond of Stone ), 9x red armor 9x yellow health, 9 blue magic resist, 3 quints Armor. Relic Shield – Ninja Tabi / Mercury Treads – Eye of the Equinox – Locket of the Iron Solari – Frozen Heart – Mikael’s Crucible – Zeke’s Harbringer. ( some supports prefer going          for Face of the Mountain & Ruby Sighstone which cost more than Eye of the Equinox, but at the same time are stronger when separated. Eye of the Equinox is a nice and cheap item, but if you’re ahead you can go the separate route to become stronger. )

Braumsupport tier list: braum

Pros:

- great peels;

- innate tankiness;

- good roam/ganking potential;

- lots of soft & hard cc.

- AoE CC.

Cons:

- vulnerable to a lane with double poke;

- no sustain;

- skillshot reliant.

            Braum is a tanky support who is very tanky by default and has a lot of CC incorporated in his kit. He is a good laner, a good roamer and a even greater team fighter. His unbreakable also allows him to block certain crucial abilities which could make you lose the fight from the start if hit by the enemy team. He is very versatile, can stun multiple targets with his passive in a teamfight and can provide insane peeling to the carries.

            Generic build: 0/12/18 ( Bond of Stone ), 9x red armor, 9x yellow health, 9x blue magic resist, 3 quints Armor. Relic Shield – Sighstone – Boots of Mobility – Eye of the Equinox – Locket of the Iron Solari – Frozen Heart – Zz’Rot Portal – Zeke’s Harbringer. ( if enemy team has a lot of CC, consider getting Mercury Treads instead, if they have a lot of autoattacking champions, Ninja tabi is the go-to choice, remember to adapt the build to your needs and not just brainlessly build the items listed in here as “generic”. )

Tahm Kenchsupport tier list: Tahm Kench

Pros:

- versatile stasis ability;

- semi-global ultimate;

- can fulfil his duties even when he is behind / gold-starved;

- innate tankiness.

Cons:

- low mobility;

- single target CC;

- requires some sort of coordination with your ADC for maximum efficiency.

            Tahm Kench is a tanky support who should be picked when your team requires a tankier frontline and already has some sort of hard CC in the other lanes. He is extremely versatile due to his most broken and overpowered ability in the game ( Devour ) which can give enough breathing room to get your carries to safety while inside your belly. Tahm Kench can also carry the enemy adc/mid laner to your team if they’re improperly positioned. His semi-global ultimate allows for some great roams with your jungler, by appearing behind the enemy laner for a guaranteed kill. Overall, he is a very strong pick, but requires some bot lane synergy/coordination to be able to use Devour properly to win the lane.

            Generic build: 0/12/18 ( Bond of stone ), 9x red armor, 9x yellow health, 9x blue magic resist, 3x quints armor/movement speed. Relic Shield – Sighstone – Boots of Swiftness– Face of the Mountain / Eye of the Equinox – Locket of the Iron Solari – Frozen Heart – Mikael’s Crucible. ( adapt your build to your needs, this is only a general “build” which should work, but is not ideal in all scenarios. )

Sorakasupport tier list

Pros:

- Best healing champion in the game;

- Global ultimate;

- Can be picked in almost any match-up ( *requires competent ADC );

- Can zone out important enemies with her silence.

Cons:

- Low mobility;

- Squishy;

- No dash in her kit;

- Weak ganker/roamer.

            Soraka is a champion who focuses on restoring health to her alies, zoning important enemies from a teamfight with her silence, slowing other key targets to give your team the ability to disengage better or to chase down someone. All these amazing things come with a great price, she has no dash in her kit, she is vulnerable and struggles to get away if caught off guard. The immobility allows Riot to keep her in track from a balanced point of view. If she had a dash or an escape in her kit, she would definitely be perma-ban/pick, but right now she is vulnerable to certain match-up - which is one of the reasons why not every support main default picks her, even though her winrate is insanely high and she is prone to win more games over the time in the hands of an experienced player, regardless of the team he is having. It must be said though, a bad Soraka player can ruin anyone's game.

            Generic build: 0/18/12 ( Windspeaker’s Blessing ), 9x red armor, 9x yellow health regeneration, 9x blue ability power, 3x quints AP/Health Regen/Armor. Ancient Coin – Sightstone – Boots of Swiftness – Eye of the Oasis / Talisman of Ascension – Ardent Censer - Locket of the Iron Solari – Mikhael’s Crucible – Frozen Heart. ( Basically as a support you need to adapt your build to your teams needs, if they have a lot of magic damage, you build some magic resistance items, if they have a lot of attack speed scalling champions, you buy a Frozen Heart and so on, there’s not a big amount of items to choose from, just make sure to rush the right ones. As for Soraka, starting the Ancient coin allows you to sustain during laning phase pretty easily, while also increasing your passive gold gain to allow you to rush your core items faster, which is tier 2 boots and an upgraded option of ancient coin, be it eye of the oasis or the talisman of Ascension. )

Janna support tier list lol

Pros:

- Great peels for ADC;

- 3 types of CC in her kit ( slow/knockback/knock-up);

- AoE heal ultimate (which is really more often used for the knock back and crowd control).

- Damage increasing shield

Cons:

- No dash ( makes up for it with CC  and high movement speed) ;

- Squishy;

- Low damage compared to other meta supports.

            Janna is the ultimate protect-the-ADC support, because her kit incorporates an insane amount of CC, which allows her ADC or any other carry on the team ( top / jungle / mid ) to unleash their true potential in a teamfight while having a safe net from Janna, with all the shields, heals, movement speed and crowd control. She can be picked into almost any match-up, her strengths allows her to ensure a decent laning phase for her ADC and enhance his trading potential against almost everyone (with a few small exceptions of course, like when you might want a more aggressive support to shut down the enemies). If you are inexperienced at this role, I would definitely suggest you to start the role by playing Janna and getting the core understanding of the role before moving on to more aggressive supports. It has to be said though, that a good Janna can often carry teams by herself (we have a booster who actually only boosts on Janna, and she has an insane win rate), but if you are the type of person who needs recognition from your teammates, Janna may not be for you because a lot of her work goes unnoticed. In a team fight you may JUST save your ADC with a shield, while you knock up the enemy mid and interrupt his ult while straight after using your ult to knock back the enemy toplaner and stopping him from killing your ADC. If you manage all this you have pretty much won the team fight by yourself, but you know it is your ADC with his tripple kill that will get all the glory. You will have to be satisfied by the knowledge that, even if your team does not recognize it, you are carrying their sorry asses.

            Generic build: 0/18/12 ( Windspeaker’s Blessing ), 9x red armor, 9x yellow health, 9x blue ability power, 3x quints AP. ( Ancient Coin / Spellthief’s Edge – Sighstone – Boots of Mobility – Eye of the Watchers / Eye of the Oasis / Talisman of Ascension – Redemption – Locket of the Iron Solari – Zeke’s Harbringer – Mikhael’s Crucible. ( as mentioned before, the support choice of items is rather small, Locket being a mandatory item because of the benefits it gives to your team and since most junglers right now are pretty offensive, they don’t have that much of a use / way to incorporate into their offensive builds that many defensive items, which don’t have some more damage on top of it ( ex. Maw of Malmortius ), so it becomes the support’s job to buy this amazing item. Riot has future plans on it though, because of how mandatory it is and in preseason it will be removed or reworked, so buckle up and enjoy the amazing benefits and hope for some support item additions. )

Sona league of legends support tier list

Pros:

- Easy to play at a lower level;

- Good laning phase;

- Great poke & team utility with healing, speed up and crowd-control ultimate.

- Damage can be deceptively high.

Cons:

- Squishy;

- Low sustained damage;

- Relies on team to follow up on ultimate.

            Sona is a support who can described as the opposite of a “ticking time-bomb”. She starts off very strong, but she scales poorly and if you fall behind she gets to a point where she is only needed for her speed up, maybe a little heal and her ultimate (which is still more useful than a lot of other supports). She can be a monster in lane, that’s why you need to make sure to do everything in your hands possible to punish the enemy laners, while also allowing your ADC to scale properly. Her base damage is pretty high, which allows her for some amazing poking & zoning capabilities, but this comes with a price, she doesn’t have a dash or escape in her kit and the movement speed buff from her E might not be enough to escape a gank if you’re overextended. She is also very squishy and dies relatively fast, so in order to counter this you either need deep wards, or you will need to have a great reaction time when spotting the enemy with standard wards to allow you to run/escape to safety and avoid losing the advantage you’ve built. It is worth nothing, if you are very, very good with this champion and playing at a lower elo, it may be fun to build some damage on her and surprise your enemies with sheen - lichbane. Nothing is funnier when a Sona manages to 100 - 0 the enemy ADC - it also has the added advantage of making the enemy team rage. Please keep in mind, this tactic only works if you are really good (our boosters who are master/challenger level sometimes do this as high as plat 1 - so if you belong in plat but are smurfing in gold, silver or bronze, give it a try!)

            Generic build: 0/18/12 ( Windspeaker’s Blessing ), 9x red magic penetration, 9x yellow armor, 9 blue ability power, 3 quints AP. ( Spellthief’s Edge – Sighstone – Ionian Boots of Lucidity – Eye of the Watchers – Locket of the Iron Solari – Mikhael’s Crucible – Frozen Heart – Ardent Censer. )

Zyra support tier list: zyra

Pros:

- Excellent laning phase

- Insane poke potential;

- Scales well into mid-late game;

- Rewarding when mastered;

- AoE CC.

- Easy to harrass enemy laner

Cons:

- Immobile ( no movement speed bonuses / dash );

- Squishy;

- No sustain;

- Skillshot reliant.

- High mana cost

            Zyra is an offensive type of support, who unleashes her wrath by manipulating the plants which her passive or her ability spawns. She is an unforgiving support for the enemy laners, one misstep can cost them a summoner spell, two or even their lives. Her damage during the laning phase is on par with Sona ( the reverse-ticking time bomb ), although since patch 6.21 Zyra is used much more and is the top choice for support along with Miss Fortune (who fell out of style in patch 6.22)!

            Without a single doubt, her poke and pick potential are insanely high, but at the same time this comes with a price and the price is her mobility (as usual). Zyra is squishy ( can be fixed by items ) and immobile and can be picked off by enemies quite easily, so positioning is a key factor when playing her. You will want to make sure you watch for potential threats and root them before they reach you or another key target and then maybe follow up with a knock-up and kill them before they get time to react (as long as your teammates are reliable for a follow up).

            With patch 6.21 Zyra became an even more popular pick and is dominating the bot lane alongside Miss Fortune. She is easy to pick up and play and doesn’t require much mechanical prowess (although your E and passive is both skillshots and is important that you hit). With Zyra you need to get as much AP and utility as you can, max the roots and you’re good to go. The only 50/50 match-up now is against Brand/Karma because both fill the same role in lane, poking from a safe range and then following up with a flash ignite possibly for easy kills. Outside of that she has no counters. If she’s not banned, pick her, simple as that.

            Generic build: 12/18/0 ( Thunderlord’s Decree ), 9x red magic/hybrid pen/attack damage, 9x yellow armor, 9x blue magic resist, 3x quints ability power or attack damage. Spellthief’s Edge – Sighstone – Eye of the Watchers – Ionian Boots of Lucidity – Black Cleaver – Mortal Reminder. ( core items for 40% cdr, rest is up to you, if you want even more slow, buy a Rylai, if you want more burn/magic pen go for Liandry’s Torment, if you want more armor pen go for Youmuu’s, usually games are over once you reach the 40% cdr build and just keep clearing the enemy teams with minimal effort, if you want to be more useful to your ADC/team, you can go Zeke’s Harbringer or Locket of the Iron Solari, just adapt to the game, ask your team what they need off you and buy it, simple as that. )

Blitzcrank support tier list: blitzcrank

Pros:

- Great at punishing mistakes

- Has both silence and knock up in his kit, as well as replacment (hook).

- innate tankyness

- Can turn the tides of battle with a good hook.

Cons:

- No sustain

- Weak against poke lanes

- Very weak when Q is on cooldown.

- Mana hungry

            Blitzcrank is a melee support, who focuses on using his Q ( hook ) ability to drag enemies to him and his allies, follow up with a knock up and either forcing a summoner spell or two or even killing them. He has to be played with a pretty aggressive ADC, who can use the advantage of hooks. Picking him with a passive ADC who is weak early will make Blitz obsolete on lane, since even if you’re going to land your hooks, your ADC won’t be able to burst the enemies down or do much harm to them. If you are however stuck with a passive ADC champion or even player, try to give him some vision and if he can farm properly, roam to other lanes with your junglers for some kills or assists. Blitz can be an amazing support if played correctly, especially if the player who uses him has good prediction aim and knows how to aim those skill shots. A good hook can literally change the tide of the battle and get you an unexpected win - just be sure to never aim your hook at the enemy tank/initiator (unless he is alone) as that is a good way to get flamed by the whole team for being an "idiot" - which you would be.

            Blitzcrank used to and still is changing the tides of some battles with a good timed hook or flash+hook on a mid laner or ADC. The first few things which you need to learn about are the cooldowns of the dashes your enemies will be having and the travel time of your hook, you will get used to the travel time after 10-15 games and it will become much easier to understand where it will land/hit. Do not give up if you fail the first few games, only with practice you can become a good Blitzcrank player.

            Generic build: 0/12/18 ( Bond of stone ), 9x red armor, 9x yellow health, 9x blue magic resist, 3x quints movement speed. Relic Shield – Sighstone – Boots of Mobility – Face of the Mountain / Eye of the Equinox – Locket of the Iron Solari – Frozen Heart – Mikael’s Crucible.

Honorable mentions

1) Zilean – not so popular pick as others, has a good winrate, but is usually played in a premade of 2+, with one premade picking Zilean and the other one picking an ADC or an offensive top/mid/jungler which can be enabled furthermore by Zilean. He doesn’t do that well in uncoordinated teams, because of the risk of wasting ultimate ( you ultimate a person and he flashes or dashes out to safety ), which renders him useless, since people in uncoordinated team play can’t really get a good use of the movement speed he offers aswell. So if you are playing in a solo environment avoid this pick, if you’re playing with a buddy who excels at offensive picks, pick this champion up and unleash his true potential.

2) Sion – popular pick with a solid winrate in two regions, he is used as a champion to punish immobile champions. Since he is rather weak right now in the top lane, due to the need of requiring champions like Ekko/GP/Gnar, all which are much more mobile than Sion, he is relegated to support, where he can still use the strengths he has with all the CC he can bring, but at the same time, he isn’t punished that much as on top lane + on top of that his base damage allows for a pretty good laning phase and his tankiness allows him to do a few misplays which would go unharmed.

3) Soraka – even though her laning phase was drastically nerfed in patch 6.19, she still remains a power pick which can effectiviely be used to win when you’re in a premade with an ADC who knows how to trade, and who knows what it means to be the “frontline” of the botlane during laning phase while you (as Soraka) stay at a safe range and keep healing. Soraka is still the best healer of the game, but her laning phase is much weaker compared to before, especially because her heal cooldown was doubled at rank 1.

4) Janna – always a good pick regardless of meta, she has a lot of CC in her kit and tools to protect and enable the carries of your team, regardless of role they’re playing. She will always be the default go-to pick for supports who are unsure what to pick, there’s no bad composition for her - she can fit into any team and a good Janna player can always make a huge different in the .

5) Braum - a valuable pick in the current meta, especially the one filled with immobile ADCs and enemy team AoE abilities which sole aim is to CC entire teams or deal tons of damage. Braums unbreakable skill is an amazing ability to stop all of this and can be a complete game changer! However, he is pretty weak against most meta supports right now since they’re mostly ranged and they get free time to poke him. He can still work, but he should be picked with an aggressive ADC who knows what he’s doing to dominate the lane.

6) Bard – still an amazing pick to carry games with as support, but not as strong as the other supports who offer more peel or more reliable engages. Pick Bard if you’re experienced as support, avoid if you’re someone who has to support because of autofill.

Keep in mind, this list will tell you which champions are the best to carry with in each patch when you play alone or with a friend. It does not feature champions that are heavily team reliant, even if they are strong picks as this support tier list is not aimed for 5vs5, but rather for Solo/Duo queue players who want the best champion to carry with even when your team lets you down.

Kash, I think that is because the honorable mentions change depending on patch. So if you are looking at patch 6.23, it shows Janna as one of the 5 tops support, and NOT in honorable mentions, BUT she was in one of the previous honorable mentions, which is why she is still on the list.

Think you need to look at each list individually from each other. If you click on one champ name on a list it will take you to the correct info for that list, then you can click backspace and do the next one etc.

Cool, but just one thing, the build on zyra it's a copy-paste from MF's. And honorable mentions include 3 of the "Top Supps". Kinda weird
