Season 7 start - League of Legends
When does season 7 start in League of Legends? This is a question we get all the time. Even now, before the current season has ended, people are still asking us every day if we know when season 7 starts, and the answer is: "Kind of". Keeping in mind that season 6 is scheduled to end the 7th of November 2016, the season 7 start for league of legends should be around the 15th to 19th of January 2017.
Only Riot knows exactly when season 7 starts in LoL, but if we look at the pattern from previous seasons we can come very close to an exact date for the start of season 7. Take season 5 for example. The 21st of January 2015 League of Legends opened its ranked season, only one day prior to the LCS spring split. In 2016, the LCS was announced to start the 16th of January, while season 6 started the 20th of November, 4 days after the split begun. In January 2017 Riot will announce the starting date of the first LCS match. If the LCS start date is for example, the 15th of January 2017, that would suggest season 7 in LoL will start around the 16th-20th of January. This follows the patterns of the previous few seasons, making the assumption that Season 7 in LoL will start in mid to late January, most likely around the 19th. A Riot employee tweeted the LCS start date - with more information to come at a later date - last season in early January, so we are hoping we get the same kind of information early January 2017 as well. As soon as more information is leaked or announced by Riot, we will confirm it here in this article. Updates can be found at the bottom of this page.

- Season 1 started the 13th of July 2010 and ended August 23rd 2011
- Season 2 started the 29th of November 2011 and ended the 12th of November 2012
- Season 3 started the 1st of February 2013 and ended on the 11th of November 2013. It is at this point where Riot started using the same approximate dates.

- Season 7 for League of Legends will most likely start between the 10th of January and the 31st of January 2017. Pre-Season - How does it fit in?
Pre-Season starts approximately 10 hours or so after the season ends. For most servers it will be the 7th of November this year, and pre-season will be in effect as soon as the ranked servers are back online. Riot uses the pre-season to test the new, big patch they were working on during the last few months of the season. Normally as soon the pre-season starts Riot launches a pre-season patch that contains a lot of big changes. Some will be removed or deemed "not working" before season 7 starts, while others will be kept on and becomes the beginning of season 7 meta. We can also expect some changes to take place before season 7 starts, during the middle and end of pre-season, normally these changes are mostly minor ones, but as soon as Riot kicks off the new season, pre-season ends and the patch that launches the season 7 in League of Legends will be the patch you are going to be competiting on for the new rewards for at least the next month - unless there are urgent fixes that needs to be applied sooner.
The good thing about pre-season is that you can gain a lot of hidden MMR, raise your division and have it carry over in Season 7. LoLBoost sells pre-season boosting for just this reason. There is a soft reset between pre-season and season 7, which means that if your MMR is high you will place much better after your placement games (which you can pre-order after season 6 ends with LoLBoost.net for best results and fastest service). If you got boosted during pre-season you will most likely skip divisions and climb the ladder much more effectively once you are placed. More information on elo boost services can be found on our homepage and on the boosting page.

Update: 19th of October 2016
For the first time since League of Legends launched, Riot has announced a FIRM season start date one and a half months BEFORE the season actually starts (and while season 6 is still in progress) .
